The Radical Way of Love

Oct 5, 2025    Pastor Rev. Craig T. Smith

1. Discussion Questions

Think about a time when someone showed you unexpected kindness or forgiveness. How did it affect you?

Why do you think loving enemies feels unnatural or even impossible without Christ?

Digging into Scripture

Read Luke 6:27–31.

What specific actions does Jesus command?

How do these actions challenge our normal responses to being wronged?

How does turning the other cheek or offering your shirt communicate love rather than weakness?

Read Luke 6:32–35.

What does Jesus say separates Christian love from worldly love?

In what ways does loving our enemies make us like our Father in heaven?

Read Luke 6:35–36.

What does it mean to “be merciful, just as your Father is merciful”?

How does being satisfied in God change the way we respond to loss, insult, or injustice?

Application

Who is one person in your life that is difficult to love? What would it look like to actively bless them this week?

What steps can you take to pray for someone who has hurt you?

How can your group or church model this radical love in a divided world?

Closing

Reflect on Romans 5:10: “While we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.” How does this verse motivate you to love beyond limits?

2. Adult Daily Devotions (Monday–Saturday)

Monday – Love Beyond Limits

Luke 6:27–31

Reflection: Jesus calls us not just to tolerate enemies but to love, bless, and pray for them. This is love that takes initiative.

Prayer: Lord, help me to take the first step in love, even when it costs me. Show me one person I can bless this week.

Action: Write down the name of someone who’s hard to love. Pray for them by name.

Tuesday – The Dignity of Non-Retaliation

Matthew 5:39

Reflection: Turning the other cheek doesn’t mean weakness; it means strength under control—refusing to mirror evil.

Prayer: Jesus, teach me to respond with grace when I’m insulted. Help me show Your dignity and love.

Action: When you feel slighted today, pause and pray before reacting.

Wednesday – Love That Surprises

Luke 6:29–31

Reflection: Offering more than is demanded (the shirt as well as the coat) shocks the world with grace.

Prayer: Father, make my love generous and unexpected, pointing others to You.

Action: Do one unexpected act of kindness today for someone undeserving.

Thursday – Reflecting God’s Heart

Luke 6:35; Psalm 103:10

Reflection: God loves the ungrateful and the evil. When you forgive, you reveal His mercy to the world.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for loving me when I was Your enemy. Help me reflect Your heart.

Action: Thank God for someone who has shown you mercy, and consider how to pass it on.

Friday – Treasure in Heaven

Hebrews 10:34

Reflection: Christians can release revenge because their security isn’t in possessions or pride—it’s in Christ.

Prayer: Jesus, help me rest in You as my treasure so I can love freely and forgive fully.

Action: When you feel wronged, remember: “I already have all I need in Christ.”

Saturday – Be Merciful

Luke 6:36; Ephesians 4:32

Reflection: Mercy is the overflow of a heart filled with God’s mercy.

Prayer: Father, make me merciful like You. Let others see Your compassion through me.

Action: Revisit the person you prayed for Monday. Ask God again to bless them.
